Det romantiske drama The Sessions er baseret på journalisten Mark O'Briens inderligt optimistiske forfatterskab og fortæller historien om en veluddannet og sindsfrisk poet (spillet af den fantastiske John Hawkes), hvis kropsfunktioner er lammet af polio, og derfor må leve i en jernlunge døgnet rundt.
